By Charles Clayton

In Psalm, 46, verse 1, the psalmist provides an excellent lesson that is useful everyday.

This simple illustration shows that God is our refuge and strength, and very present help.

Practical Lesson: Learn to trust God in all ways.

Key thought: God can provide mercy and grace to help us in time of need. (Hebrews 4:16)

Have you searched your life and found need? Most of us can answer this question with a yes. We may seek fortune, fame, friendships, etc. When we sense a gap between our present condition and one of these goals, we feel a need arise.

Could there be something else missing that results in our unsettling feeling of need? When hungry between meals, we usually look around for something to satisfy the need. When we seek knowledge, we usually explore books, mentors, or instructors to squash ignorance. When we seek happiness, we seek all kinds of activities or situations. Yet, when these short-term satisfactions are met, why are we still longing for happiness?

Why does temporal satisfaction and happiness leave our inner-most being feeling incomplete or unfulfilled? In my experience, long-term fulfillment has usually come from living a life of genuine satisfaction and happiness.

Where do we find a life of genuine satisfaction and happiness? In the key thought above, the Apostle Paul urged the Hebrews to come boldly to the throne of grace to obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. This simple request serves us today as a practical lesson. It occurs to me that coming to the throne of God in prayer may be the key to finding genuine satisfaction and happiness.

Have you sought God by coming to His throne in your time of need? God can provide miraculous help when you pray and seek his face. Learning this principle of prayer is a key to living a fulfilling life. In prayer, God can provide your answer of need through reflection, illustrations, and even later with an unexpected sequence of events or miracles. The Bible provides many illustrations in the Old and New Testaments where God listens to prayers and provides help in time of need.

Have you kneeled in prayer or sat in solitude with God today? Go ahead and seek God today. God is waiting on you, and will not judge you for waiting so long. God can fill you today with the Holy Spirit, and bring great joy and happiness. God can offer you peace from the insufficiencies of life and unfair situations. God can help you find genuine fulfillment in life.

After you take this step toward God, don't stop, you are on a journey. You'll find you will want to meet with God every day. God will guide you a day at a time. Your journey could even go through rough times, but I’ve found even in rough times that life is sweeter with God. Read Psalm 23, the shepherd's psalm; it will serve you as a sanctuary and anchor through storms of life.

Application:Make a list of ways you can put this to use and begin practicing as soon as possible.

How do we know we are living in the last days or the beginning of sorrows?

KJV Matthew 24:2-44

4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these
things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
